Edward's Story
"I was bunged off when I was 11 years old to a Prep school (in England) because my mother felt that we were a close family and I had been in a closed environment.
"She wanted to push me out into the world, so she just sent me to school here. And she’d be ringing the Headmaster every day to make sure I was alright. But she thought it was the best thing for me. But I don’t know if it was the best thing for her… "She’s always pushed me to think for myself and to be a bit more mature and things like that. And finally, I did get over here and had my independence and things like that and I went with that. "Going back, I was different. We went through a stage for about three years where we just didn’t get on. I don’t think she likes the way I’ve developed as a person. [When I came here] I wondered why my parents had sent me here. I felt as if I was being punished or abandoned. I missed home a lot. There was a matron at Prep school; I got very close to matron.” |
